Orthodox Kenya

On Sunday, February 8th, 2026 at Saint Mary of Egypt Orthodox Mission and Refuge of Africa in Gem, Kenya, priests and deans gathered to perform and celebrate the baptism of 33 converts to the Orthodox Christian Faith. This momentous occasion for the mission and the clergy of the Kakamega Deanery enjoined the hearts and souls of many to Christ, and brought the clergy a much needed and much anticipated, unifying event, strengthening and encouraging all towards the effort of establishing the faith in Africa.

Led by Father Silouan Brown of Orthodox Africa and Father Antipas Odhiambo, rector of Saint Mary of Egypt, the newly illumined gathered with joy as they entered the waters of the Holy Sacrament of Baptism, one by expressing their joy at having been received into the Holy Orthodox Faith.

As the priests and deans of Kenya, united for the faithful, come together to perform such mass baptisms, of one accord with each other and Christ, we ask you to pray for them and the newly illumined, and to support the work of this mission and missions just like it in bringing the Gospel of Christ through the Holy Orthodox Christian Faith to villages across Kenya and the whole continent of Africa.
